Successful completion of Intro to Songwriting 2 Fee: Earlier concepts will be continued and extended while new concepts such as melodic contour, dissonance, concept, and style will be explored through a variety of assigned compositions, performance critiques, and collaborative projects.
Students will not only write songs but realize them in class, on stage and in the recording studio. Commercial viability will be addressed with an emphasis on collaborative and independent vocational application.
A primary focus of this course is on production of a song EP that represents a portfolio of the songwriters work at SOTA. Students should have regular access to an instrument outside of school, preferably a piano or guitar, but it is not required. Students will work independently or in very small groups executing projects from composition to final production - often working on outside projects for clients within the school community at large.
Students must have the capability of running a complete session from set-up to take down in the studio.
